How do wrinkles form?
As we age the skin starts to wrinkle, crease and become dull. It all starts from the age of thirty, when the first expression lines appear on parts of the face where the muscles are most active. The wrinkles then become hollow and multiply: they are cracks in the dermis.
To understand how wrinkles appear, it is first important to understand how the skin works. The skin is actually made up of three main layers:
The epidermis: the visible layer of the skin that protects the muscles
The dermis: the skin’s main layer which is responsible for nourishing it. It contains all the elements needed to care for it, moisturize it and keep it in good condition: blood and lymphatic vessels, and fiber. Collagen and elastin fibers are also present and help to keep the skin looking youthful and firm.
The hypodermis: this is the fatty layer of the skin that is in direct contact with the muscles.
The main facial wrinkles are:
- Nasolabial folds
- Marionette lines
- Wrinkles around the lips
- Crow’s feet
- Frown lines
- Forehead wrinkles
As it gets older, the body’s production of collagen, hyaluronic acid and elastin fibers slows down, which has a direct impact on the skin’s quality. The fewer necessary nutrients and free radicals in the skin, the shorter it will stay in good condition and the quicker it will deteriorate.
As a result, when we age we notice the following:
- wrinkles form
- pigmentation spots appear
- the skin becomes dehydrated and thinner
- Sagging skin
Other factors exacerbate the formation of wrinkles:
- Unhealthy lifestyle (e.g. not removing makeup at night or poor diet)
How can facial wrinkles be erased?
At our center we offer effective, safe treatments, which can be used in conjunction with each other.
Hyaluronic acid injections: hyaluronic acid is already present in our body and is a very important hydrating agent for maintaining the skin’s youthful appearance. It is mainly used on the lower part of the face. When injected it will have a volumizing effect and will fill the wrinkle. Its hydrating and volumizing action will last for around a year.
Botox injections: botulinum toxin has a smoothing effect on the injected area. It will freeze the muscle to prevent the wrinkle from forming. It is mainly used on the upper part of the face and its effects last for around a year.
Anti-aging peel: there are different strengths of peel. For anti-aging concerns, the doctor will recommend quite a strong peel for a smoothing effect on the face. The acid used will irritate the skin and make it peel for a few days to help a renewed second skin appear!
The Hydrafacial treatment: it is a hydrating treatment that gives the skin an instant radiance boost. The different products applied and the 4 treatment steps smooth and soften the skin texture. Fine lines are erased and the skin looks younger. The treatment must of course be repeated every month for optimum results.
Regenerating thread lifts: this new generation of thread lift delivers a double action on the face. With their mini bidirectional cones, the threads tighten the skin painlessly with results that last for several years. The glycolic acid contained in the threads will spread to reshape the area, when the threads are reabsorbed.
Fraxel laser: used for several indications such as dark spots or scars, the Fraxel laser has a smoothing effect on facial skin. By delivering small laser beam pulses it causes the skin to peel and stimulates cell regeneration. Collagen will be stimulated for several months, and the skin will look more beautiful and noticeably rejuvenated.
Fractional CO2 laser: this laser works in the same way as the Fraxel laser and gives the same results, with the difference that it delivers carbon dioxide pulses and is more aggressive.
Medical rejuvenation protocol: this medical program helps to rejuvenate the entire face. In fact, it includes hyaluronic acid injections to erase wrinkles, one Ultraformer session to tighten the skin and a thread lift to redefine the face.
