Hyaluronic acid injection

Hyaluronic acid injections are among the most common aesthetic medicine requests from our patients. This filler has the huge advantage of being extremely versatile and it can be used for different indications, such as to fill wrinkles or restore the volumes of the face, safely and effectively. It is one of the most requested anti-aging treatments in the world.

  • Facial wrinkles

With age, the skin becomes dehydrated, thinner and creased. This process starts around the age of thirty with the appearance of expression wrinkles that form when the face moves (e.g. appearance of nasolabial folds when smiling). Then, after the age of forty, wrinkles deepen and remain visible when the face is still.

Aging is due to the gradual decrease in collagen, elastic fibers and hyaluronic acid, which are essential elements for the skin’s youthful and firm appearance.

There are now effective and risk-free ways to erase wrinkles: hyaluronic acid injections. By injecting this protein through a syringe or a cannula, the wrinkle is filled in and the crack disappears. Since this product is already present in the body, it is perfectly tolerated by our body and will rejuvenate the face for almost a year, since it is resorbable. There are several types of hyaluronic acid, with thicker or thinner molecules, depending on the area to be treated and the wrinkle (light or deep).

Hyaluronic acid can be used to fill:

    • Crow’s feet
    • Forehead wrinkles
    • Frown lines
    • Nasolabial folds
    • Marionette lines
    • Fine lines around the lips
    • Hand wrinkles

The session lasts approximately 20 to 30 minutes depending on the number of injections to be administered, and patients will be able to resume their activities immediately after the session. The results are immediate. You may leave with a slight swelling that will disappear a few days later. The doctor therefore advises taking Arnica 2 days before the injections, and massaging the injected area in order to distribute the product well.

  • Lips

As well as a decrease in facial volume, there is a loss of volume in the lips as we age: they become thinner, dehydrated and wrinkled. Lips are less plump and sensual, and are often accompanied by fine lines around them, also known as “smoker’s lines”. Young lips are smooth and full, which is why hyaluronic acid is the perfect product to plump this area.

The doctor will choose a hyaluronic acid thick enough to smooth and plump the lips naturally.

    The following techniques are possible:

    • Needle injections: the doctor will administer several injections around the lips. The results are natural but the technique is a little uncomfortable. An anesthetic cream with a high concentration of lidocaine will be applied on the entire mouth at least 30 minutes before the session.
    • Cannula injections: the doctor will make a tiny hole on both sides of the lips with a needle, in order to insert the cannula that will run along the lip. This technique minimizes swelling and bruising.

There are no specific risks apart from the appearance of slight swelling, which will disappear as the days go by. It is therefore recommended to take Arnica a few days before the injection. The session lasts about 15 minutes and the effects last about 1 year.

  • Complexion

With time, pollution and stress, some people notice their complexion becoming dull. Their face looks tired, dull and gray. Thanks to small injections of hyaluronic acid on the surface of the skin over the whole face, the patient will regain a rosy complexion that radiates freshness! For this type of treatment, short, thin needles are used. This technique is called “mesotherapy”.

This treatment revitalizes the face and hydrates the epidermis to slow down the aging process. Mesotherapy draws water and fills the lack of hyaluronic acid, which constantly decreases as we age. It is in fact thanks to hyaluronic acid that the skin retains its youthfulness and radiance. Mesotherapy also has a smoothing effect on small wrinkles.

Mesotherapy can be applied to several areas:

    • Face
    • Neck
    • Cleavage
    • Back of hands

It takes approximately 3 15-minute sessions once a month to boost the complexion. The results are almost immediate from the very first session, and improve with time. The patient can say goodbye to foundation and bronzer promising a “healthy-glow effect”.

  • Dark circles

    Filling under-eye hollows

Under-eye hollows are undoubtedly the first sign of fatigue visible on a person’s face. They make the eyes look heavy and exhausted, giving an unhealthy and weakened appearance. Under-eye hollows reveal the bone surrounding the eyes.

There are many reasons associated with this phenomenon, including:

    • Water retention
    • Permanent stress and fatigue
    • Delicate skin
    • Genetics
    • The loss of fat due to skin aging

For a revived look, the physician will inject hyaluronic acid into the dark circles as a filler. To avoid irregularities, the needle will penetrate deep enough into the dark circle right down to the bone. S/he will choose a hyaluronic acid that is thin and fluid enough to respect the delicate skin. The dark circles will be filled, the eyes revitalized and energized for almost 12 months.

Removing blue/purple circles under the eyes

There are several types of pigmented dark circles: brown, blue/purple and red. Each has its own causes and origins and only blue/purple circles under the eyes can be treated with hyaluronic acid. This type of pigmented dark circle is caused by the transparency of the skin, which is too thin, making muscles and blood vessels visible. Genetics can also play a role.

By injecting a delicate and fluid hyaluronic acid to respect the fragile skin, the lower eyelids will be thickened and the pigmentation will disappear. The effects last up to 12 months. The doctor will inject the product down to the bone to prevent unevenness and bumps on the lower eyelids. The patient’ss eyes are left revitalized, and they will no longer need to use concealer.

  • Facial reshaping

Facial reshaping involves restoring the volumes and contours of the face and generally combating sagging skin. It is mainly indicated for reshaping the eyebrows, cheekbones, chin and nose.

Still not very widespread in France, medical rhinoplasty is an excellent alternative to surgery. The principle is simple: the hollows around the nose are filled with hyaluronic acid injections to reduce a small bump and smooth the nose.

This procedure lasts less than 30 minutes and has many advantages:

    • Alternative to cosmetic surgery
    • Good way to see the results of a reconstructed nose before surgery
    • Not irreversible: resorbable product
    • No scarring
    • Not expensive compared to surgery
    • No anesthesia
    • No time away from social activities
    • No hospitalization

By using a hyaluronic acid that is thick enough, the effects can last up to about 1 year.

Price of hyaluronic acid injections

    FAQ

    • Do I need to take time off work?

Absolutely not! You can schedule an appointment during your lunch break and then immediately resume your usual activities.

    • Will the procedure be painful?

The hyaluronic acid injection is administered easily and evenly, thanks to the smooth structure of hyaluronic acid. In order to reduce the pain associated with the injection, we use products that also contain lidocaine (local anesthetic).

    • Are there any side effects?

After the hyaluronic acid injection, you may notice some swelling, a slight redness or bruising in the treated area. But rest assured, these side effects will not last. In fact, they can easily be concealed with your usual makeup. However, do not hesitate to contact your doctor if these reactions should last more than a week, or if you should develop other side effects. All skin injection procedures carry a small risk of infection.

    • How long do the effects of hyaluronic acid injections last?

Many factors and some precautions should be taken into consideration, specifically:

      • the age of the patient
      • the treated area
      • the quantity and consistency of the product used
      • skin quality
      • lifestyle
      • health condition

However, in our experience, the effects generally last between 8 and 10 months, and in some cases 1 year.

    • How much do hyaluronic acid injections cost?

The cost of a treatment mainly depends on the type and quantity of product used to perform the injections. In addition, there are other factors such as the doctor’s qualifications, the brand of the injected product, the prestige of the practice or clinic, etc.
